My birthday week, list #1: 26 things you don’t know about me

Helloooooo

Yes... this week marks my 26th birthday. Young ? Maybe. But it does not feel so to me. I love my girls trying to be quiet while comploting to make something special for this day with their Dad's help. And my Koala always saying she hadn't made me a birthday card yet and she has to do it soon because it is «the day after tomorrow !!!» (imagine the White Rabbit there).

So I decided to make it special myself here on the blog. I don't know exactly how yet but we'll see; bear with me please !

To begin, I thought it would be fun to share 26 things I think you don't know about me. Maybe it would help us know each other better ;)

  1. I am an addict. A Nutella addict. But I am currently in desintox. Difficult with two young kids.
  2. I used to be depressed. And I've never been helped professionally for it then. No one really knew because I did my best to kind of hide the despair I was in. I was a teen.
  3. When I was very young, I wanted to be a trapezist in a circus.
  4. I love taking selfportraits. But I usually hate when someone else snaps a picture of me.
  5. I have 4 half-brothers on my father's side. But they know nothing about my existence.
  6. My first «real» boyfriend was 9 years older than me. We stayed together for 2 ½ years. He is still my friend today.
  7. I am a Witch. Kinda.
  8. I love Paulo Coelho's books. My favorite is «Veronika decided to die».
  9. I watch a lot of teen/young adult tv shows. The kind you only admit watching to your BFF, telling her she will be dead if she spills the beans about it.
  10. I don't know how to draw.
  11. I love receiving snail mail and packages. I kind of get on everyone's nerves when I know there is something in transit for me because I am like a child before Christmas.
  12. I took modern'jazz dance classes for 8 years.
  13. I thought I would become a cook and worked in a restaurant. This was the best job I had. I was coming home smelling spices all over me (and the smell in your hair and on your skin DOES stay).
  14. I met my husband on an esoteric centered forum in 2003. A friend had created a thread for the one of us who were singles to post like a newspaper ad telling what we were looking for in a relationship... and my husband answered to mine. I was not expecting falling in love at that time, I was still kind of having my ex in mind not that long ago before. It was the best participation I wrote in a forum :D
  15. I started my alone adult life at 18, when I went out the cozy maternal cocoon after I graduated high school.
  16. I regret not having any University degree and having quit Psychology. But this stays one of my passions.
  17. I have a fascination for names, their origins, their significance.
  18. I sometimes secretely wish we will move more east in Canada... Ontario or Québec. For many reasons. Even if I do really really enjoy Vancouver.
  19. Marilyn Manson fascinates me. I am a gothic inside.
  20. Being a mom is sometimes a pain in the ass. Love is tested.
  21. I have no friend in Vancouver and feel very lonely here. I am so shy and always fear to bother people that I don't insist when I am put «on hold» several times.
  22. I love houses and buildings, their shape, their stories...
  23. I am in the blogosphere since 2003. I first created a private blog, when things like typepad etc were not popular, i created it for my friends, when I started University. Then I spent my life on esoteric forums, managing the one I've created and that had several thousands members. And when I closed it, i started «themed» blogs: cuisine, reading.... I loved playing with HTML. I guess it was my way of being Geek.
  24. I believe I am an Old Soul and that one of my past life was hundred of thousands years ago (wishing someone could (in)validate).
  25. I don't know how to meditate.
  26. I was Mel B in an end of year show during middle school, some girl friends and a boy friend and I did a choreography on one of the Spice Girls' song.

Your turn know to tell me a secret about you, pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase ;D Just have fun and share in the comments.

See you tomorrow <3

Gratitude Friday 09/16/2011, it falls into places

Gratitude Friday is a weekly ritual I started in order to focus on all the small and big positive things that happened during my week. I invite you to join me, you'll see how much being thankful can change your life. If you want to know more about it, read my introduction post.

Hello !

I have to be honest with you: I started several blogpost to share with you throughout the week but never published them. Affraid of the image it would reflect and to be too personal on this space.

As Friday arrived, I had no idea what to thank for. Which is pretty unusual to me as I always find something.

I am still struggling with adjustement. Not only to this new life of being hit by fibromyalgia, but adjusting to our new schools routine as the girls are not in the same place anymore, not the same schedules blablabla. And I have to admit I am not that good with change in general. It seems like I am forgetting who I am, and I hate this sticky feeling.

But, here is what I am grateful for this week:

  • The schoolbus system, Grenouille takes it every morning at the corner of our street and is dropped off nearly at the same spot. I just have to be there to pick her up so she does not come home alone.
  • I finally started my Practical Reiki training and it is amazing ! It seems like I am the only beginner but I don't really care that much about that. I will receive my 1st attunement next week, exciteeeeed. I know this is the perfect timing for me and for the ones I love and care about.
  • My godfather sent me a message for my birthday. Even if it was a week early, it made me happy.
  • I am about to eat sushi and japonese food. Strangely, this is what feels like comfort food to me.
  • I love this selfportrait I took and played with actions in Photoshop (wishing i was reacher and could spent $150 to buy actions on RadLab).
  • My daughters and husband are planning surprises for my birthday behind my back. It makes me feel loved.
  • I love this Mail Art project and enjoy creating these littles pieces, hoping their recipient will like them.
  • I love the honest conversations i have on a nearly daily basis with my friend A.
  • I found the book I thought was forever lost, from the previous giveaway i had over here.
  • I love receiving comments or messages about readers loving what happens when they do their Gratitude Friday.

Call for Mail Art

Hello !

Following the amazing of Nessa and then Mindy... I am calling for mail art exchange ;)

You know, you simply create something in a format that fit an envelope size, then you put it in this pretty enveloppe you customized with love and ship it to someone who will be thrilled to receive it.

If you are interested by the idea, simply send me an email with your snail mail address and I will then send you mine: nolwenn@inner-voices.net

Here are the backgrounds for the ones I started:

And with the sketches:

I am learning a lot in the process. For example, working on several smaller size paintings at the same time put me in a kind of happy transe. Going back and forth from one to another etc.

Can't wait to actually ship them :D

No pressure, just create something that makes you very happy, ok ? I hope you will join me in the exchange !

Gratitude Friday 09/9/2011

Gratitude Friday is a weekly ritual I started in order to focus on all the small and big positive things that happened during my week. I invite you to join me, you'll see how much being thankful can change your life. If you want to know more about it, read my introduction post.

Hello !

Ebb and flows would be the title of the movie inspired by my life ;) Well... I learn to go with it, as simple as that.

This week, I am thankful for:

  • - This week was back-to-school for both my girls. We are getting used to our new routine, to Grenouille taking the schoolbus (which she is very happy about)... I am happy this system exists in North America, the bus comes at the corner of our street and simplifies our life a lot !
    - Being back to painting. I find my happy place, I needed and missed painting, creating, getting messy with my hands. I guess I cannot deny it anymore: I am an artist.
    - My friend Anu, her again. She listens to me babling, whining, having epiphanies. She is the light I thought did not exist.
    - My mom's strength of character.
    - Energy drinks that help me to keep going, even if I hope to find something more natural.
    - I finally made my mind and decided to start a monthly newsletter. I will write it only in english first and will see if the francophone community is interested in following me via a newsletter. You can sign up right there in the sidebar, it is called Inner Whispers =====>
    - My perseverance to take care of myself (or at least, I am trying) without procrastinating. I am proud to still be able to look after my kids, even when exhausted like i havent sleep in weeks and in physical pain, when my world seem to be turned upside down.
    - I had my first (free) chinese medicine consultation. Seems like I am too stressed, my chi does not circulate properly. Damn !
    - I will begin my 4-week Practical Reiki formation next week, and it feels like I am finally going where I should. And new possibilities are already blooming.
    - I am alive. And despite all the rocks, all the suffering, I am still here. Trying to do my best with what I am given.

You can now sign up for «Inner Whispers», my newsletter

Hello !

If you are on Inner Voices fanpage on Facebook, you should already know this. If not it is okay don't worry ;)

I have been thinking about creating a Newsletter for a long time now, not knowing what I would say, if people would be interested etc. I decided it does not cost me a penny for now so I am giving it a try.

I will be sending it about once a month (I won't bombard your mailbox, be reassured), so you will be the first to know what's up in there, some coupon codes so you can enjoy my Etsy shop even more and who knows what.

It is simple, you can find the sign up box right there on the sidebar. It looks like this:

You will be able to unsubscribe at any time if you are not happy with it :)

Thanks a lot for the support you send me, it means a lot.
