Happy Thursday ! Today I have a new {Painting In Motion} video, created for ColourArte, to share with you. Scroll down to see the list of the products I used.

I wanted to try something I have had in mind for quite some time. However, I did not dare doing it until now. Use a fluid painting as a background instead of a finished abstract painting. All the possibilities !

Don’t be scared to experiment !

If you always put some pressure about doing every piece of art a masterpiece, you will forget all about the joy. Trust me: I have been there ! I had a urge to do something more with my fluid paintings. Even though this year is the year I chose to explore abstract paintings in different forms, I wanted to go further.

Nixies have been a quiet voice this past year. Always on the back of my mind but not in the foreground anymore. I guess we needed some time apart to grow.

Experimenting is leaving some space for mistakes. I don’t believe in mistakes when it comes to creativity though. Because it always becomes some learning material. Think of it that way next time.

I love Blue, almost all shades of it. I wanted to try a monochromatic pour while leaving a negative space, so it would not be overwhelming. I have an obsession with negative/blank space in the abstract paintings I am making right now, so I hope you won’t get fed up with them.

If you are not familiar with it, a dirty pour is layering prepared colors into one cup before pouring it on your surface (I have made other videos on my channel, if you’re curious).

I used ColourArte‘s Primary Elements pigment powders for my colors because they are highly pigmented and I just adore their shimmer ! The blues I picked do not belong to the same families (one is a greenish teal, one is a very dark blue, and the last one a pale blue) so I was really curious to see how they would work together. White is always a safe color to pick to go with any other one.

If you watched my previous {Painting In Motion} video, you saw me blow on my wet paint to control how the colors were meeting the “negative space” one. I did this a little on this canvas as well, and love how it turned out.

I’m back today with my first video of this second term with ColourArte.

Today, I am fulfilling my abstract explorations obsession and share with you a technique new to me (technique discovered via Ann Osborne). Another current creative obsession of mine is adding blank spaces in my paintings, how the nothingness can still tell stories too. In this project, I chose black acrylic paint to contrast with the beautiful vibrancy brought by the Vivid Ultra Metallic paints.

I love the feathered look I obtained. Abstract does not necessarily means chaotic. That being so… you can somewhat control the chaos. I use straws but you can blow without anything to direct the air, or you could also use a palette knife or even a Catalyst blade. It’s all up to you !

You know I love sharing art supplies I use and might remember I used to make project videos for ColourArte, a company I have known (and used) since around 2009.

I am now part of their Design Team again, and will be making projects using their amazing products (that I never stopped using in my art, I will just have videos focused on them several time a month).

I will be sharing tricks and tips about how to use their nice range of pigments and paints to incorporate into your paintings, especially my new obsession: abstract art (and pouring paintings).

It is really excited to be back and to officially be sharing my love for this brand again <3

For my last project as a video creator for ColourArte, I decided to showcase my love for stencils and used them with almost every products the brand has.

I work in layers, always. Some you will never know existed when you look at the finished painting. But for this specific one, I wanted them all to be visible and using ColourArte’s product with stencils gave me that freedom of movement and choices.

I love using gesso as my first layer, it add grit to the surface so I am sure the product will adhere to it. As you can see, I like to leave some blank space so the wood still show through, it adds a really nice interest with the sprays reacting differently on gesso than on naked wood.

I love this big stencil from Donna Downey (scroll down for the list of supplies I used in this project) and it was perfect for my 8×10″ wood panel.
