Today is March 2nd, the day of release for Dr Wayne Dyer’s book “The Shift“. The book is a companion book to the Movie formerly called “From Ambition To Meaning”, that became the undertitle afterward.
This article is the first one I write for Hay House, now that I’m proudly an Advanced Release Reader Reviewer.
This book is a thin one, but is really concentrated in lessons and learning.
The author divided it in four parts (I don’t count the introduction): “From” “Ambition” “To” “Meaning” and details how you have the power to take the step forward to live your life with a meaning instead of letting your ego take the control of who you are and what you achieve. You can think this organization is weird but it’s absolutely not and makes sense as you read the book.
Here is the product description:
The Shift—a companion book to the movie of the same name—illustrates how and why to make the move from ambition to meaning. Such a shift eliminates our feelings of separateness, illuminates our spiritual connectedness, and involves moving from the ego-directed morning into the afternoon of life where everything is primarily influenced by purpose.
As we contemplate leaving the morning of our life, where ego has played a commanding role, and entering the afternoon (and evening), where meaning and purpose replace ambition and struggle, we may encounter unexpected occurrences that accompany this new direction. It’s almost a universal law that we’ll experience a fall of some kind. Yet these falls or low points provide the energy we need to move away from ego and into a life of meaning and purpose.
The Shift doesn’t mean that we lose our drive and ambition; it signifies that we become ambitious about something new. We make a commitment to living a life based on experiencing meaning and feeling purposeful, rather than never-ending demands and false promises that are the trademark of the ego’s agenda.
As Dr. Wayne W. Dyer so eloquently reveals in these pages, we all have the choice to shift our lives from ambition to meaning . . . and thereby complete our return to the Source that created us.
I remember something one of my aunt told me a few years ago: “You lack ambition, Nolwenn. You are young, you should be more ambitious“. It hurted me at that time. I should, yes. Because our actual society is all about ambition, about Shoulds and Woulds regarding your age, your social background, your ethny. And what if ambition was not the key ?! We HAVE TO pursue studies in University and then get a job that pay well, we have to wait until this is done to create a family, get married… A mum has to be like this and a dad like that. There’s no end to the “shoulds and woulds”. I didn’t fit in this pattern, and I still don’t, actually; but sometimes it makes me feel bad whereas it shouldn’t because I did what felt true to me.
We don’t have to give up on ambition, just to feel and act what is right to not be ruled by it. Find the meaning lying beneath ambition.
In fact, our life is full of shifts, and the majority of them is unconscious (the first shift, for example, is from our spirit to our physical form).
Where are we from ? Who are we ? Why am I on Earth for ? And what about God ?! These questions are the principal ones Wayne Dyer ask himself in the first part of the book, in the “From” chapter. He looked for answers for about his entire life, and light our bulbs with what he found out.
I loved the fact that at the end of each part, Wayne Dyer proposes a sum up and how to act concretely about it.
It’s not always easy to have a face-to-face with ourselves, but I still think it something we need to do if we want to evolve in a positive way.
I recommend you to watch the movie if you can. It’s really inspiring and paired with the book, you will be accompanied perfectly on you way toward the shifts in your life.
