Happy Thursday ! Today I have a new {Painting In Motion} video, created for ColourArte, to share with you. Scroll down to see the list of the products I used.

I wanted to try something I have had in mind for quite some time. However, I did not dare doing it until now. Use a fluid painting as a background instead of a finished abstract painting. All the possibilities !

Don’t be scared to experiment !

If you always put some pressure about doing every piece of art a masterpiece, you will forget all about the joy. Trust me: I have been there ! I had a urge to do something more with my fluid paintings. Even though this year is the year I chose to explore abstract paintings in different forms, I wanted to go further.

Nixies have been a quiet voice this past year. Always on the back of my mind but not in the foreground anymore. I guess we needed some time apart to grow.

Experimenting is leaving some space for mistakes. I don’t believe in mistakes when it comes to creativity though. Because it always becomes some learning material. Think of it that way next time.

You know that my Nixies mean everything to me. It is not because we take a little break from each other that I forget about them. They still appear.

This year, I have the pleasure to be a visual contributor to the amazing e-zine The Phoenix Soul. You will find a piece of art from me in every issue of 2017 (it is a quarterly zine).

Meet Cerah. I created her on an elongated canvas (a format I don’t usually use but had around). The theme of this issue is: Living your vibrant life.

I had this vision of a Nixie with rainbow hair. It does not happen often this way; I am an intuitive artist. I let whatever wants to happen happen, and just go with it. But this time, it was the other way around: I could see her before doing anything on my surface. So I let her be: I sketched what I was seeing and created her as she wanted.

I created texture first, and played with ColourArte Primary Elements (shimmery art pigment powders) for her hair. Because it was so vibrant, I went for a more subtle background.

I love her. She was the first Nixie I painted since we moved to Québec, so I was nervous to be honest. She is very stunning, to me. And very meaningful, too. I can not make art that is not personal somehow, this is just how I roll…

I wish I had recorder her creative process in video, but I did not. Maybe next time !

I am a Virgo and I think it is a common personality thing: we tend to get obsessive pretty easily. I have always been honest about it: it is sometimes a curse when you can’t get your mind to think about something else than the said obsession. BUT it can also be a blessing because it forces me to explore and squeeze something as much as I can.

So I decided… why not share it with you guys in the {Scraps Of Life} vlogs.

I discovered  the Unicornos figurines thanks to Liz Lamoreux who shared hers a while back now. I bought lots severals (and they recently released the series 5 and and and…. yes.)

Part 1 (Mermicorno unboxing with my daughter):

It was really fun to film with Kaly. We share this common love for everything Unicorn and Mermaid so she was really happy when I had duplicates 😉 I really hope Tokidoki will release a Series 2 eventually. You can find them here, here or here.

Part 2 (Liquitex Muted collection and music):

Music is everything to me and I do know I will go back to learning to play an instrument eventually. There is always music playing in our home.

I have been in love with Alicia Keys since her song Falling, back when I was in highschool. Now, I am falling in love with her, the woman. She speaks her truth(s) in this new album, album coming after a pretty long time without new music from her. She decided to go against the flow and to stay who she is, even in public. Less make-up. Her beautiful natural hair. I thank her for speaking up.

In the video, I share my top5 songs from “Here”. And if you have about 22 minutes I really suggest you watch her video “The Gospel” that kind of introduce you to her album in a beautiful artistic way.

I can not stick to one medium when I create. Trust me, I tried and tried but failed everytime. Because I like mixing things together, see how they play with one another. I love acrylic inks and some of my go-to are the ones by Liquitex. Especially because they go wonderfully with any of their media. When they released their Muted Collection I simply fell in love…

I bought both the inks and the soft body and just WOW. That Muted Grey stole my heart…

For this week’s {Painting in Motion} video, I wanted to try something new: use only one brand for the colors. Stretch the products and my creative muscles in the process. For this first one, I picked Lindy Stamp Gang (the only thing I did not use for this project, from their brand, is their embossing powders).

I am asking you: which brand would you like me to explore next ?

I really love the texture created by the first layer of tissue paper. All these wrinkles make me SO happy 😀

Lindy Stamp gang has both shimmery products and what they call flat ones, that have just the color. It opens the possibilities depending on what you need for your project.

I am getting back more often into the safe place that is my art journal. This is why I decided to take you with me while I let a Nixie come to life, for this video project for ColourArte.

I have several art journals within which I work and for this video, I picked my Dylusions square one (my current go-to journal).

Art journal to me is where I unburden myself, where I experiment and just let happen whatever wants to come forward. I accepted long ago that this is my process and forcing myself to have a plan was doing no good.

I have to admit that I used a bit of every line of ColourArte products in this page. It’s just because I love them so… it’s what usually happens. The Primary Elements are maybe my favorite (sssshh) because I can make so many different things with these pigment powders.

I let the colors and the face that appeared guide me. It is usually hard for me to convey what is going when a Nixie is coming to the surface because words are not enough. I just see the face in my mind’s eye and let it come forward. Sounds weird, probably, but this is the best way to describe the processus. I go with the flow and learned not to second guess myself too much even when things go in strange direction like what happened with her eye.
