Hey there !
I invite you to check Lindy Stamp Gang’s blog today as I am sharing the mixed media piece I created especially for the booth we will have at CHA next January.
I hope to see you there 🙂
Hey there !
I am so happy to share with you today some painting you may have seen snippets of if you follow me on diverse Social Media platforms.
It’s still a bit hard for me to put paintings for sale, I guess I take it too personally if nobody buys them but I am working on it.
(scroll to the bottom of this blogpost for more info on the sale !)
All these three paintings are Sprixies (these characters that look like nothing you know, or not exactly), created on 7.5×11” (±19x28cm) watercolor paper.
Prints are not listed in the shop, but know that it’s an option (the 8×10” print is $20+s&h). Contact me if interested.
«Reach Out» was made when I was feeling extremely lonely, forgotten, and a pretty deep sadness was filling my heart.
This is usually when I go deeper in my painting process. I lay it all out, on the surface, and cover it up with papers, and paint and goodness to bring the Happy back.
Don’t let the Sadness fills your heart for too long, it does not have to be so painful.
Find this special someone to reach out to.

«Be You» is dear to me. I have a thing for Koalas, if you’ve been on my blog before you know it’s the nickname we give our little one (she is 6 ½).
As I never plan what I will paint (and if I do, it never actually turns out like I had in mind in the first place so I barely bother anymore !), I had no idea a koala-ish Sprixie would appear. But I went for it when I saw his ears and nose emerge in between the chaos that was the background.

«Remember» is a bit less abstract as you can see 🙂
Elephants are known for their amazing memory, so I was not that surprised when he showed up, seeing that piece of paper that made its way in my first layers.

I am part of my dear TrueSister Mindy’s year long class called True Free Spirit (more about that soon).
For our October project, Mindy shared with us a patchwork background painting and I instantly fell in love with it. Got obsessed with it, even. I am making them with the end of my palette (because you know, I hate to throw paint away so I either create painted papers with it, or now add them to a patchwork background).
She is also created on 7.5×11” waterolor paper.
Leelah is your reminder that no matter what, go for what sparks your flame, what makes you happy, what you are passionate about.

Oooh I love being challenged. One of my darling customer contacted me last week, telling me she needed a Nixie to be her new computer’s wallpaper. Something that will inspire her to create and to work.
You know now that I am a hundred percents intuitive when i work. I do think, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t plan ahead, I just go through my stash of papers, take paint and go from the Intention I start the process with. This customer knows about it all, so I was confident that whatever would appear on my painting, it would be what she deeply needs, no matter how scary it is for me sometimes (psss: you can contact me if you’d like a painting just for you).
Layers. It is about the layers, and daring to make bold moves. I was so scared to cover it up with that toned down pebble paint… but knew in my heart this was what the next step needed to be. And I am in love with the effect it created. It reminded me of the importance of how the brushes where meeting the surface, that depending on that was how the paint is spread (you’ll see in the video).
I am so grateful for my creative mentors and inspirations, that pushes me further.
This, right there, makes me extremely happy. I think that the texture is what makes me continue exploring again and again, and then the magic of seeing something emerging from what can seem to be Chaos.
Yes, it is far from being perfect. Far far far. But I can finally say that I am comfortable with the faces that emerge. It is what was needed a few months back when I decided I would stop creating Nixies for a while. I am still exploring but my love for them grew stronger.
Here is a list of the supplies I’ve used for this painting. Please, feel free to ask questions if I did not talk about something that is on your mind about what is this or that 😉
I was watching Mindy Lacefiled’s video for this month projet over her online class True Free Spirit. I love the music she uses as background, usually some songs by the duo Larkin Poe. I don’t necessarily pay attention to what it actually says (and it’s easy to turn my brain of because English is not my mother tongue) but this time, there is something that kept standing out: «Shadow of ourselves».
Inspiration often strikes when I don’t expect it to be there, and this is what happened. It triggered memories, old feelings, new thoughts.
The wall I built over the years is cracking down, little piece by little piece. Letting people in, letting my Light out.
In the Shadow of herself
She feels safe,
hiding who she really is.
Look closer
If you want to uncover
the big Heart
and the willing Soul that were
in the Dark.In the Shadow of herself
She comforts,
Soothes the deep wounds of her past.
She unfolds
all these stories that she built
to protect
the bright but tamed light she knew
was waiting. In the Shadow of herself,
she broke,
caved in; not really sure
which path to go yet.
Full of Trust,
She discovered she could be
inspired.In the Shadow of herself,
She notices
the old patterns that compose
the red thread
holding the key and answers
of questions
She only has the power
To unveil. In the Shadow of herself,
She is Me.
Something then happened… The urge to sketch a Nixie, from an images that appeared last week during a meditation (when I can’t sleep, I grab a clear quartz, either hold it or put it on my forehead, do a short visualization… and usually, I fall asleep quite quickly after that)
And then this is what I saw while this little «I badly need to fall asleep. now» session. I know the Nixie that appeared was actually me.
What’s a girl to do when the Inner Voice gets pushy to sketch ? well… she sketches 😉
If you’ve been reading me for some time, you know how obsessed I’ve been with Lindy Stamp Gang‘s products for a few years now. Most of their products are two-tone shimmered (meaning the base is one color, the shimmer is another one). In this painting, I used their Starburst Sprays, shots and a Magical Mica (it is a two-tone mica powder, that you can use with a waterbrush, or any medium).
I am the newest addition to their Design Team and could not dream of a happiest news this week 🙂
Comfort zone. I love getting out of mine. Yes, despite the unexpeted it tends to bring because well, it causes discomfort (logical my dear Watson !). My challenge was to use mostly blue, white and red. I use all the three colors, but rarely together though (even if I love teal and red together).
I am falling in love with using watercolor paper as my surface (and it is easier to ship to you if you buy the painting, yaaay). I wanted to see how well (or not) it supported heavy gel, so I tried using super heavy gesso with a stencil.
You can find what I used in the list at the end of the post.
I started my first layer with ripped pages from The Da Vinci Code book (we have it, and I bought this edition from our public library for almost nothing). I wanted the text to still show through the next layers here and there. The title of the painting was found within the sentences of the book pages, these three words just made sense to me and I knew I wanted to keep them.
The products from Lindy Stamp Gang are so insanely colorful and shimmery, it kind of counter the sadness in this Nixie’s eyes…
The Spirit of the Rabbit has been showing up to me for a month or so, it was at its Zenith while in Port Townsend where I could not help be see Him emerge in my paintings.
The Rabbit does not only symbolizes fertility, but also embodies gentleness.
This Nixie is anxious by nature, but when she puts her Rabbit suit on, everything falls into places.
I am trying to find my way in my «old» shading process for my faces, and all the goodness I learned during Sugar & Spice from Danielle, Mindy and Juliette. AND I am taking this fantastic online class by Micki Wilde, called Paint Happy, and she teaches plenty of techniques to shade the faces.
I love experimenting, so I am drawing lots of faces in my Art Journal, and play with different processes to find what makes my heart sing (and my mind content with the look). I’m getting there !
Texture, texture… texture. The tools created by Catalyst are the bomb, I use their Blades to apply my media and create shapes, the Wedges are wider, and I’ve just discovered their new Contour tool that is a lot smaller, so are the edges. It makes it easy yet fun for me when I create. Using wet paint to then add designs in it, this is my happy place…
If you have suggestions for this new Animal Spirits serie, please feel free to share them with me 🙂
I hope you enjoy watching me paint:
