Inspired by Sarah Trumpp

Sarah Trumpp has been in my creative circle for years. But I actually never interacted with her much before I saw on Facebook that she was looking for creative people for her first DT…
At this point, I was loving her artwork already and been dying to get my shit together to buy some of her stencils. I did not think twice and just decided to go for it and apply. And I was picked! Sarah’s DT was filled with amazing talented women, gathered around our love of quirkiness and of stencils.
I want to be like Sarah when I grow up. She is fun. She has plenty of funny tattoos. She is a yoga instructor. Her artwork is like nothing else out there (I instantly recognize it as hers). She loves her people fiercely.
Sarah also has a fantastic sticker shop, that I think you should run to.

Meet Sabrina, the inception of my new body of work

This year, I decided to change things up a bit in my creative practice. It’s no secret I am easily bored and need to challenge myself up on a regular basis.
I want to prove myself that I can take a Nixie and tell her story throughout different paintings. So meet Sabrina, the first Nixie I will do this with.
I will create a seperate blogpost to share her backstory and where I see this going.

Welcome in this new {Inspired By} video. I had a blast channeling my friend Dori Patrick’s style into this painting I came to adore.

Dori and I met in California, at an art retreat. I remember Mindy telling me “My friends Dori and Consu are here, I know you will love them: they are amazing !”; she knew how meeting new people is making me nervous. And I have to confess, Mindy was right. I fell in a girl-crush for these ladies.

Dori came with her husband Kerry and they both are a gem. She brightens the room when she enters and every time I did pig tails with my hair, I thought of her 😉

Her art is very colorful and she uses words to make them even more powerful.

I felt like coming home while doing this painting. Dori has a great sense of colors and patterns so I used my favorite Strumpet Stencils to add that little touch.

I played with transparency and opacity so my first layer would still show in some places.

I messed up the lettering, I am bad at it but do it anyway. That’s how I roll !

I am so happy to share with you today the second episode of my {Inspired By} video series. Mindy is a dedicated artist sharing her love for techniques in online and in-person classes.

I had the chance to meet her twice at workshops and she is even funnier in person ! I am blessed to have found her when I did, not long before she released her first online class, Paint Your Story.

I related to her characters at first sight. The soft intensity in their eyes and expression has something unique. They have a child-like quality. This is something essential that Mindy taught me over the year: never leave the child you once were behind. Her stories, her trials, her pain, her simple joys are what makes you you today.

Mindy explores techniques so she can get through what gives her a hard time.

And don’t forget her sweet southern accent 😀

Yes, I do have a big girl crush on her, but who wouldn’t ?
