3M hanging strips
Here is the finish painting I talk about in the last portion of the video:
She turned out good eventually, I am happy I stuck with her instead of giving her a total facelift (she is made of plenty of layers however).
She is looking for a new home to fill with her magick ๐ Soon in the shop, but you can contact me if you are interested.M h
I loooove those 3M picture hanging strips!! I’m always recommending them to people. They’re great because I don’t want to frame my pieces (nor do I want to tell people who buy my paintings that it’s necessary to do so) and they are awesome for displaying professionally and reliably without the effort or expense of framing!
I really love seeing you and hearing your voice, it makes you much more real to me! What you said about sketching really resonates with me. I used to sketch because I wanted to know what I wanted a painting/girl to look like. Now I sometimes sketch first to work out scale/composition but I’ve given over to letting the exact face / features just emerge. I also used to sketch and then create a background around a girl, but now I’ve become more comfortable with creating a background first and then sketching out a figure on top of it. It really makes it all more of a whole.
I love your art room, the walls are such an inspiring colour!
(I will film an Art Studio tour soon so you’ll have a better idea of how it is ;))
These 3M hanging strips are just amazing, love LOVE them.
I was so nervous about speaking and it is still difficult to hear the strong accent when I wish it was smoother, and to notice the grammar errors I make because of nervousness. But this is me, fully <3
It's great that you are gaining confidence in your process, I guess it truly comes with practice. And trust that there is no wrong way and no mistake.
I will soon record a Studio tour ๐
Ha! You’re so good in front of a camera! Even when I’m just talking off screen, not even in front of the camera, I freeze up and get too embarrassed. ๐ You seem much more natural.
I used to be so bad at planning painting projects! My high school art teacher used to make us practice sketches in our sketchbooks over and over before starting anything and I hated it. These days, I still don’t really do a lot of practice sketches… I sometimes practice on journal pages so that if it doesn’t work, it just stays in the journal. No papers wasted!
Oh don’t be fooled, I need to really prepare myself mentally before actually starting to record. And I even had to re-record one segment because my brain totally froze on the name of something I was talking about…
I love how you achieve of staying intuitive in your watercolor mixed media pieces, as watercolor is know for being a bit on the unpredictable side of the spectrum…
(nothing is wasted here either ;))
Hi Nolwenn,
So great to see you broadcasting from Teal Studio (very aptly named too — those bright turquoise walls are quite wonderful)
These days when making art, I’m more of a planner. With watercolor, you kinda have to be. You might need to mask off and preserve certain areas, and if you are wanting to retain a white background, you’ve got to think through what you’re doing before you begin layering on paint.
I’m also sketching designs on in pencil first. But it didn’t always use to be this way… and I’m sure my process will inevitably evolve and change again!
Blessings! Cat xo
I love my Teal Studio (even on the days I wish it was different). I will do a tour soon (it is not that big so it should not take an hour lol).
When you work with watercolor, do you only stick to this medium, or do you sometimes mix it up with something else ?
Loving the bi-lingual subtitles too. Very international and inclusive ๐
Hehe it adds some work to add the subtitles but some friends and family members requested them as they don’t understand everything in English ๐ AND I am all for reaching a broad range of people, so all in all, it’s perfect that way <3
