Still processing the awesomeness of Flora Bowley’s “Bloom True” workshop
Note: this post contains a LOT of pictures, be warned
As you know if you are a faithful reader of Inner Voices (blink blink), I was in Seattle last week-end to attend Flora Bowley's workshop called Bloom True, organized by and at Teesha Moore's ArtFest Annex.
Remember how I sent the intention to attend her workshop a few months ago ? Sometimes the Universe listens closer to your whispers than you think...
To be honest, I am still processing it all, all that I have started to unravel during these two days. Because it was more than painting to me. Way way more.
First of all, I really believe that like-minded Souls gather around the teacher in this kind of workshop; the twenty-ish ladies that came arrived with their stories, their background and a good reason to be there. So yes, it all begins with the "I fell in love with Flora's art" but I'm pretty sure there is something more than just that...
Flora is passionate about what she teaches. Bloom True has more than painting techniques (but don't worry, it IS the heart of it all). We stretch (and not only our bodies), we laugh, we connect (with others, with ourselves, with the Creative Source), we cover and uncover, we paint with our hands (l.o.v.e.)....
We painted big, which i am not used to anymore for several reasons, learning to let go, not to get too attached but to enjoy the process (ringing a bell ? Yep. A good one).. The ending creation was not what mattered the most.
To be honest, it was hard sometimes for me to stick to acrylic paint only as I am a Mixed Media artist, but it was so good. I went in and out of my comfort zone. It felt good to paint bigger again, 30x30" was the perfect size for me: large but not making me feel like I could not achieve it all. It happened that I actually finished a painting by the end of the first day and bought another one that night so I could still juggle between two canvases the day after.
Very attentive students, drinking every techniques and explanation given to us. The class was filled with demos by Flora.
Flora filled the room with music, very different kind of styles and it was very inspiring. Just grooving on the flow, letting it guiding me, my movements, not affraid to do little happy dance while I was painting. Zero fear of judgement. My classmates on my table were happy dancing as well
It just felt so natural, I am amazed.
I think I could work like that, in a studio with other artists.

I can't wait to have my own art space (Universe...... i am talking to you there), and both my girls at school full time so I will have real long hours by myself to just let my Spirit create whatever may come.
It was amazing to be surrounded by ladies having fun (sometimes with frustration though) and be able to paint and paint and paint.
I loved making marks. Creating backgrounds (that usually become a big part of the finished painting) is something I really enjoy. Click the thumbnails to enlarge:
Can you believe that the painting Flora created over the two days developed from what you see above on the right.....to that ?:
It is just stunning !!!
Do you want to see what the canvases looked like when I left Seattle on Sunday afternoon ?:

Please, go to my flickR portfolio to see more pictures of this awesome workshop.
I loved how Flora closed the class, and the little Show & Tell by everyone, simply showing our paintings as they were, telling what we enjoyed, sharing our struggles and encouraging each other to go on.
Here are some links to what some of my classmates are saying about our experience during Bloom True (please, if you were there and have a link to share, contact me and I will add you with pleasure):

Inspiration packed vacation in Seattle, learning from Teesha Moore (& a giveaway).
Hello Shiny you !
I am back from our first real vacations. It was short, it was nearby, but it was really cool !
We arrived in Seattle on the Thursday, and came back home Sunday night. You won't be interested in all the awesome things we did, but may be curious about the day I spent at the ArtFest Annex, the creative home of Teesha and Tracy Moore.
Here are some of the journals made by Tracy (click to enlarge):
I would have never thought of attending a workshop with Teesha... It seemed too big to be true. But it happened ! So this is my little sign that everything is possible...
I was kind of nervous to go, but it went so smoothly thanks to Kym (from Blissartworks) and Violette (who also came all the way from BC). Thanks ladies, it was wonderful to meet you in person, finally (click on the links to see what they both have to say about this workshop). These two women are just very fantastic. I am so happy I talked about the workshop on Twitter, where Kym found out about it. And then she enrolled Violette to sign up too
The annex is located in the historical part of Seattle, called Pioneer Square. As we arrived with about 30mn to spare, we wandered around. It is a really beautiful place. With a lot of artistic creations, like sculptures etc. This is also where you can start the Underground Tour of the city. The line up was huge, even if it was pretty early in the day.
First of all, the annex is an inspiration all by itself. Filled with Tracy's amazing journals, Teesha's HUGE reproductions on the walls... (click to enlarge).
We were about 20-25 ladies, from all over the US and two of us from Canada. Some were already friends from JournalFest or other retreat organized by Teesha.
The workshop was a mix of creativity via art journaling and self-development thanks to the power of attraction. Teesha guided us with some exercises from the book «The amazing power of deliberate intent» by Abraham-Hicks and of course explained us her journaling process step by step. With some tidbits from her experience and her personal life.
It resonated A LOT with me. Some of the things were stuff I already do, or know.
We all created a small journal (the final size is about 5"x5") to reflect our Intentions for our life. This was totally out of my comfort zone. Because even if I am an art journaler, I am not using collage. Not that I don't like collage, I just never know where to find elements to use, how to create something coherent etc. I won't say I like the journal that is coming up from this, because it doesn't feel... me. But I so loved the vibe, learning new stuff. Maybe if I had great images to play with, I would do it more often in my own journal.
This is a work in progress, I will go back here and there.
So now... time for a little book giveaway. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY !
As i told before, Teesha used this book from Esther Hicks called «The amazing power of deliberate intent». I bought one copy while in Seattle, but already had it home (yes, I know...). But there is a reason for everything ! Maybe you, the lucky winner, were just meant to get this book to help you. It is filled with exercises and explanations. Very easy to understand.
Please, do enter the giveaway only if you are sure to want the book. To enter, leave me a comment telling me what is currently inspiring you. It can be someone, something...whatever it is
It will end on Monday August 15th, midnight Pacific time.
Want to take your passion further ? Kelly Rae Roberts’ “Flying Lessons” is BACK !
You may know that I was one of the hundreds (or more) of people who signed up for the first e-class Kelly Rae Roberts offered last year. At the time, she was becoming a mama and had no idea if she would run the course again.
It is called "Flying Lessons" and is packed with advices, tricks, tips help you overcome the fears and blocks of making your passion your business. During 5 weeks, you will connect with amazing artists who are also in the class, read interviews filled with things you maybe had no idea about before.
It was a real investment, a step to myself saying "I am serious and I am ready to show the world what I create, who I am". And this class changed everything. I talked about it several times on the blog already. Like here in my review for example.
I know this is a lot of money.
The chance you have and I did not have is that you get the ebook included in the package
200 pages ! SO this is more than okay if you need time to digest, because you'll have everything in the ebook.
So, are you ready to spread your wings and finally fly ? (click on the image to learn more about it on Kelly's website).
Spreading some linky Love Love Love
Happy Monday !
For several of us, it is a holiday so the kids are not at school etc. Here in Canada, they didn't had school last friday either... My husband is at work today though.
It's been a long long time since my last blogpost. I must confess I was in a kind of roadblock regarding writing here. But it's gone so here I am again. Did you miss me ?
To come back softly I want to share some love today. There are amawing things going on in our Creative community. No specific order (other than how it appears in my sleep deprived mind):
Connie, from Dirty-Footprints Studio is gathering her 6th (!!!) tribe of Fearless painters to grow, live, breath BIG. I was in the first one. And if you follow my blog for a while now, you know how it changed my life. Thanks to it I overcome my fear of being seen and started recording videos (still a long way to go but I am getting there); you can read more about it in this blogpost.
During my time in the Tribe, I also finally stated to myself the raw truth: I am an Artist.
It was one of the bestest way to spend my money, the day I decided to follow my gut feeling and to just sign up and show there, not knowing exactly what it would be, how it would help me as an artist but also as a woman, to become the Me I know I am inside.
You can sign up right there.

This week, Kelly Rae Roberts is sharing some bits of her Flying Lessons ebooks on her blog. The first post is there: it's about passion, inspiration and commitment.
Her class was amazingly useful and about a year later I still refer to it in my choices, when I have a doubt. I think this is a good combo with Goddess Leonie soon to come Business Goddess class as their approach are different but very complementary.
Kelly Rae's ebooks are pretty, printable, and you won't regret the money spent. Trust me.
Learn more about her ebooks there.
My dear friend Samantha Kira, from JournalGirl.com (where I am a proud sponsor) is working her ass off to provide us wonderful online classes.
The regristrations for Through the Lens, her class about making art videos, are now opened; you have the option to receive a DVD for a little extra. It will be a self-pace workshop. She will soonish have a journaling class that will rock our socks !!
And in other news, I am beyond the moon because this summer I will attend a Journaling class with Teesha Moore called «Little Journal of BIG Intentions». And.... the Universe conspired to realize what I asked for a few months ago: I will also attend a 2-day workshop by Flora Bowley, still at Teesha Moore's ArtFest annex in Seattle. This makes me really really really happy, trust me. I know this can sound silly but... i just don't care.
I am really excited about these. I don't attend a lot of in-person workshops, and decided to chose more wisely the online classes I sign up for (I went over crazy last year so now, I am more picky).
Oh, and for you who have an iPhone, you can find me on Instagram, my name there is simply nolwennp. I share itsy bits of my daily life and art there. You can see the pictures there: http://instagrid.me/nolwennp
I wish you a wonderful week. I missed you <3
My 2-day workshop with fearless painter Jesse Reno
I still have this impression I have to wake up from a dream. I spent last week-end at a two-day workshop by Jesse Reno !
I discovered Jesse via Suzi Blu a while back (like a few years ago, maybe two or so). At first, i didn't really like his art. Maybe because it brought to me things I didn't want to feel, it seemed crazy and too crowded for me at this time. But the more I wanted to know about his work, the more I was blooming in my own artistic Universe, the more what he creates resonated in me.
Some of my Twitter friends were talking of the next Art & Soul that will happen in Portland in a few weeks, so I went on the website to see what it was and fell in love with two workshop; Jesse Reno's was one of them. But it was already full (of course).
But it stayed in a corner of my mind, I don't know why but a few days later I googled "jesse reno workshop 2011" just to see if he had workshop scheduled that will be closer geographically (I was actually thinking of Seattle that is the closer big US city from Vancouver); thinking that 2011 will allow me some time to get organize regarding my daughters, how to get there etc. What a surprise when I saw "Jesse Reno is coming back, September 25-26 2010, Vancouver Canada". It was at the beginning of September. I knew the organizator by name (I heard lots of good things about them, the store RubyDog's Art House. I know that being that close from the date, it will be sold out but just in case I decided to email them to ask. It happened that it WAS sold out, that there was a waitlist; I was the 4th in line. I thought it was dead for me this time. Leanne tells me to stay hopeful because Jesse was there last year and all the people on the waiting list did get a spot eventually ! Hoooorra.
Excitation, stress because english is not my mother tongue and when I speak it I always fear the people I'm talking to will not understand what I'm saying, stress because i don't know anyone that will attend (it's always easier to do something new when you have a reference point, fear that people would think my art sucks etc etc etc (yes, the Gremlins were pretty harsh on me !).
I bought some non-toxic paint, which I don't like at all (luckily, the sweet lady by my side agreed to share hers; and the girls will be more than happy to have this paint to play with without me worrying they have some all over their body. I realized later that the Deserres brand in jars are all non-toxic, yipaaa), I bought two big pieces of 90lbs paper, and I'm ready to go !
On Saturday morning, I am kind of REALLY nervous (i apologize again to my husband and kids, I'm not funny when stressed out); and we had a hard time finding the place as Leanne mislead us with a wrong address. I was a little late but it was okay. People were setting the room up, protecting everything from the mess we'll be making.
Jesse arrives and began by telling us his story, his background and how he ended up becoming a painter. Then, he did his first demo. The workshop was the perfect blend of live demos, fun exercises, active painting when we had to just go for it and experience, group critics, laughters....
I discovered amazing artists there. I am just in awe from all the different backgrounds we all come from: sculptor, collage artists, someone never painted before this workshop, confirmed artists, some where there just to have fun, someone was there despite the fact she HATES having her hands covered with paint. Isn't this fantastic ? This is, in my opinion, what makes this kind of workshop rich.
After this 2-day workshop (2 days is perfect. And trust me: I discovered he'll do a 5-day workshop in south america next december, if I had the $1600 I'll join without thinking it !), Jesse's art makes sense in my mind, it takes another turn. When watching at his artwork, I understand how it was made and it's just like magic in front of my eyes. Like I had access to the backstage.
All my fellow Tribe ladies where in my thoughts: Jesse Reno is the living embodiement of painting BIG and FEARLESSLY, without any a priori regarding what the painting will look like when finished, without any anxiety of covering it up to make it even better. Enjoying the process. Having fun. That's all that matters. It's pushing me out of my comfort zone, without pushing me in my retrenchements either.
I had this kind of HUGE breakthrough while speaking about the workshop to my husband. I have a better view of what I want to do artistically speaking. I have to finish the paintings starting during the workshop and then play with what I learned, digest it a bit, and incorporate it in my own style. It's like this workshop was what I needed to take the step further in my creativity.
And you know what ? Spending 7 hours with paint all over my hands, exploring my inner universe by putting it on wood/paper, is something I totally could do for the rest of my life
I'm just uber frustrated because I don't have the space to do so. But I may buy this big plastic protection, put it on the floor and just... go with the flow !
Here are some pictures (just click on each one to enlarge it):
