… but here I am, adding some plants to my abstract paintings.
I think I have a lot of resistance to painting flowers. I still don’t paint them, by the way. Some artists do it beautifully, like my friend Mindy Lacefield (who has a great class about it, called Rustic Blooms).
Books for references
In Québec, we are lucky to have the banQ, which is a gigantic free public library. You know now that I am an avid reader, but this is a hobby that can be expensive (think that a book is usually around 25$ and I read one to two a week…).
Here are the first two books I was able to grab at the library and I even added them to my Amazon wishlist so I know where to find them when I’ll be able to purchase them.
They give step by step instructions on a lot of flowers/plants/cacti. The second one even adds the symbolism behind each, which you know I am a sucker for 😉
What about you?
Is there something you swore to yourself you would NEVER paint or create, but finally caved in for some reason? I’d love to know (please, tell me I am not the only one! lol).
Abstracts…every time I try, it feels wrong. I can’t do it! Not that I won’t try again, I probably will but for now they just frustrate me so I avoid them lol.
I love to draw basic flowers. Like flower doodles.
I haven’t really sworn of anything for good just yet 🙂
Since starting my 100 Days Of Abstract Explorations project, I realized that this is not just throwing paint however I feel like doing 😉 It is more difficult than it seems, for sure. But please, don’t give up on it.
I love flower doodles. The more child-like the better, to me.

I’m sure I have done this but what’s come to mind right now is that I’ve collected all these how to draw large softcover books. I forgot I had them. I want to look through them and see if there is anything that speaks to me and wants to be sketched. I have a whole box of art stuff and there they sit waiting. Thanks for the reminder.
Nothing wrong with your flower, it’s you. <3
oh yes Jean, go through the books and see what sparks that flame of “I want to create THAT”. I have so many inspirational books just sitting there, too… it’s sad! lol
And thank you <3

Abstract is still a bit of a challenge for me. Something I’ll need to practise once I find the courage.
Just go for it. That’s what I tell myself, anyway 😉
