As I told you at the beginning of April, I embarked on The 100 Day Project this year.
On week 2, we had a long painful power outage. My ArtCave is located in our basement and it was about 10ºC (about 50ºF) inside our home. So let me tell you: no matter how badly I wanted to go paint in there, it did not happen for five days.
On the positive side
- It forces me to stretch my creative muscles
- I need to work on not boring myself
- It’s okay for me to explore new color palettes
- I have no
pressure, or almost none - I will end up with 100 paintings in the same series: to me, that’s huge!
On the less positive side
- I do feel bad when a day is skipped
- Some days, it’s like I am just repeating what I have already painted
- I am afraid to get bored eventually
- what the fuck will I do with 100 paintings?!
I like the repetition of marks. and totally get why you wouldn’t want to go into your basement! lol Keep going! you can totally do this.
Thank you so much for cheering me on! I do want to create 100 different paintings BUT want a red thread between each one (it is a series, after all). And my personal symbol (the three drops) is important to me.
Yeah, 50 degrees would be way too cold for me too 😉
It amazes me how as a girl who grew up in the northeast I cannot handle the cold temperatures. And after living several years (too long) in the south, I can’t handle the heat either lol.
Love the paintings you’ve made so far.
“It’s all about finding balance” they say 😀 My husband can’t handle the heat, I have a hard time with the cold so we both struggle here in Québec 😀
Thank you, I am glad you like these. Can’t wait to see how this project will develop.
I love you 100 days! Abstracts are freeing sometimes, no pressure to be anything just an exploration of what’s ‘in you’ right then. Are they on paper of canvas….they could make awesome scanned collage fodder or book pages……You could bind them afterwards (coptic could do it…there’s a you tube tutorial)…Scan them and make them into one big piece…adhere to a canvas and paint on it to make the 100 days part of something bigger….
That’s exactly why I thought that exploring abstract was perfect for this long project… I needed to let go of the pressure I put on my shoulders when it comes to creativity. I am making them on paper, so they are easier to store. I am scanning them all every other day (so this does not become overwhelming) and yes, they could make a pretty nice book afterward. I had an idea in mind when I began, but we will see how it goes. Thanks for the love, Rachel.
These are all really gorgeous! No way would I handle 10 degrees either. I’m a Caribbean girl, I need my house to be warm lol.
Ahah we did not have the choice. Luckily though, we have a fireplace we used. Bonus? It smelled fantastic for a week inside our home! 😀 (I live for the warmer months as well).
