This week’s video has been on my mind for a while…. I need to confess: this is the third time I actually do this project. The first two jewelry hangers are in our walk-in closet and hold my dearest necklaces. But I needed a third one (because you know… I love 3 and stuff) and decided “why not making it a video with ColourArte instead of keeping it to myself ?”. So there we go !

Have fun with creating the texture base. You don’t need anything fancy, as you’ve seen in the video. The only important thing to remember is that it will be hung on your wall and that nails will have to go through it. Other than that ? go for it !

So happy to take you with me in my art journal for this first creative project created for ColourArte in 2016.

I wanted to make a page with a lots of meaning into it, intending to let go of what is now behind and welcoming what is yet to come, but reminding myself that the present is what is truly golden.
I guess we all need that kind of hint once in a while, that we can’t do nothing anymore about what belongs to our past, but that our future is actually guided by our choices in the present moment, so this is what we should decide to focus on. Scheming, dreaming but acting on it.

What symbols can you use to symbolize the letting go of the past and looking forward tomorrow, but staying grounded ? I would love to see what you would come up with following that theme.

This week, for my video project using ColourArte’s products, I decided to create something I needed: a candle holder. I went with an empty (and clean, of course) glass jar of what I believe was jam.

You’ll see that in just a few steps, you can achieve a really beautiful result that will had this personal touch in your home (or again, make a good gift).

I started with a coat of gesso, using my trusted fluffy brush: I love the combination of both so it creates a stunning texture with zero effort. It is not captured on camera, but while it was still wet I put a sheet of paper towel on top, pressed a little and removed it. It took some of the gesso away and revealed another layer of texture.

Then, I applied the lightest colors with my fingers, all over the surface.

I wanted to see how will it look to use the Silks with a rubber stamp. I had a pattern in mind using stamps by Ryn that reminded me of the morroccan style.

This week, in my video for ColourArte, I am bringing you a fun little DIY project. You can make it for your home or even as a different gift.

For my next mini class, I will share simple ways to create themed ornements, so this was a good try for me regarding this. It does not take much effort, none of the sphere is exactly the same as the other, and you won’t find them in your neighbor’s tree (unless you gifted it ahaha).

I used plastic spheres because this is what I had on hand, but you can of course use glass ones if you prefer.

I wanted to show you three different ways to take the ColourArte’s products into a new level, but without being intimidating. These three ornements are very original (in my opinion).

When it comes to non-porous surfaces, clear gesso truly is your best friend to prepare it for whatever medium you decide to play with, this is why I coated two out of my three spheres with some. Plus, for you the texture junkie out there, it is a good excuse to start building some out there *wink wink*.

The first one is made with clear gesso, then Radiant Rain sprays.

The second one was clear gesso, but then painted with a very dark color (Payne’s Gray from Dick Blick) and Silk Glazes.

The last one was really fun to do because I got to use my Gelli Plate with coffee filters (but tissue paper would do the same) and some Silks, I show you how to create your glaze with Primary Elements as well.

For this week’s ColourArte‘s video project, I decided to go outside of my comfort zone and to alter the papier mâché moon that has been laying in my Studio for ever… and to use the newest Silk Glaze set, Meridian Moon, for it.

I love to challenge myself, and this was one for sure. I started by adding some texture with gels and then got to play with the Silks.

She needed a crown so I added some lace that I colored with two different golden colors of Primary Elements, the pigment powders; it was exactly what was missing.

And to finish her off, I mixed the Midori Melon (the beautiful green) Silk with some crackle gel and covered her entirely with it. It brought everything together and added that little something that makes her special.
