I am happy to share with you a new {Painting In Motion} Nixie for you.

Grappling my emotions and transforming them into something I can see is the best way for me to cope, in general.

In this video, I share with you a started canvas with a very ugly face sketched on it and how I turned it around to create a Nixie.

Symbols are a big part of my creative process. And symbols are very subjective: a wing can mean something to me that would differ from what it means to you. That’s one of the things I love about them. I used a lot of them in this painting and afterward, felt so free from all the emotions that were tugging at my heart in this very moment.

I am in love with how this project for ColourArte turned out !

I used one of the beautiful glass ornament and altered it with canvas dipped in Paverpol, which is a fabric hardener (remember my other project with it ?).

I wanted this ornament to act as a reminder for me to stay open to what wants to happen, even all those things that seem crazy or too big.

The compass is one of my personal symbol, so I decided to use it for this piece, as well as wood veneers and a quote band from Tim Holtz that has a powerful message I needed to hear at this moment. It says

Remember to keep some room in your heart for the unimaginable.

You’ll see how the Silks are incredibly smooth and blendable together. The canvas hardened with the Paverpol, that also acted as a glue to adhere it to the glass, gives a fantastic texture to the project (and you know me, everything needs texture one way or another).

This is an easy project you can easily get inspired by to create one with your own style and likings.

Oh My ! Sometimes, I do surprise myself with the crazy ideas that cross my mind (I often think of this quote from Alice In Wonderland: «Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.»)

For this month’s challenge, I decided to put to good use all these CDs we are not listening to anymore and alter them to create a fun banner.

First step was to cover them all with white gesso. I created texture while applying it with my Catalyst tool because well… texture is my dope 😉 *better than Nutella, eh !*.

Once completely dry, I sprayed colors (check at the end of my post for the complete list of the products I used for this project). I did not want for any mean to have an even coat of color.

I mixed Midnight RendezVous Raven in its Magical Mica form with a little bit of water, and using a Q-Tip, I made dots near the center. Then, I ran it around each disc to create a border of some sort.

On the two teal discs, I applied hot pink glitter mixed with glossy soft gel medium through a stencil. simply love how both colors complement each other, it’s this additional touch that makes the difference.

I blended some water with Cowabunga Copper Magical Mica and wrote «WELCOME» (this banner is hanging above the door of our guest room).

And as a final touch, I splattered some Teeth Chattering Teal on all of them. You can’t barely see it, you have to be in a certain position and certain light, which adds to the interest (to me).

At last, I had my husband drill me some holes, added a string and voilà 🙂 (yes… i am quirky that way and the letters are not aligned).

This year again, I am doing Project Life as my main way for our family memory keeping (I will share in the future why). 
This time around, I am taking what I’ve learned in the past couple years (well, I’ve been actively doing it last year only and still have to play catch up to wrap 2013 but that’s okay).

I can’t stick to only one kit for example, this is just who I am. Even though I am looking at a cohesive look throughout the album, I still want this freedom of using whatever I feel like using. I love making my own cards, whether I make them as journaling cards (I can trace lines, as I am not really good at writing straight) or as filler cards (you know, when you need something to fill that spot on your page but don’t have anymore thing to say or a photo to put there).

Using my Gelli Plate make it 1)fun 2)easy 3)quick. Then, I use my Big Shot machine with the metal dies I got from The Crafter’s Workshop to cut them easily at the right 4×6” or 3×4” (Becky Higgins is coming up with her own set of dies, which will include these two kinds as well).

So I decided to make a little video (well actually, I may have one more coming next week, where I’ll show you how I made my spreads with it):

I love 7 dots studio, brand that I discovered through the amazingly talented Anna Dabrowska (aka Finnabair). The lines are so gorgeous that, to be totally honest with you, it is a bit intimidating to work with for me as I tend to cover up most of my paper layers in my creative process.

I started by tearing the beautiful Messy Head paper to 9×12”, I love ragged edges. Then, I mixed some Gab Me With A Spoon Gray Magical Mica with soft glossy gel medium to create a wonderful shimmery paste, that I simply applied with one of my Catalyst wedge here and there (it was helping me to overcome the «blank page» syndrom). I also used it for the top left corner.

I love love love the new dusty rose color, Bodalicious Blush, and sprayed it through a stencil as well.

Gel media and our LSG products love each other, proof is I used heavy gel with our Midnight Rendezvous Raven glitters (still from Totally 80’s) to stencil through and create her leafy wings; and then again with another stencil that I sprayed, once dry, with Icy Primrose Gold (a discontinued color) *the ink goes in the cracks and creates natural contrast*. 
I used Fiber paste mixed with Time Travel Teal Magical Mica to create a great texture for her hair. It stayed so vibrant even once dry.

The short sentences on this paper are great, you don’t necessarily see them at first but they are here.

I embossed the drops with Pumpkin Fiesta and Hydrangea Blue Mauve embossing powders, I did want the overlapping of the two colors so it was totally made on purpose.

Her antlers were cut out from the What Wood U Say paper, and then sprayed with Cowabunga Copper before being glued.

For her dress, I used the Sweet Dreams paper from the Dreamer collection. The fabric and colors were perfect for a dress. I did not want it to lay flat on top of the rest so I applied gel medium through a stencil, and to make it pop just a little more, sprayed with a golden Starburst Spray (as said earlier).

Her messages, Little Miracles, comes from the Messy Head Elements. I simply sprayed it with Cape Cod Coral and glued it where it seemed important.

I used Frolic In The Forest Green Magical Mica (from the Tickle Me Fancy set) for her eyes. And last but not least, I splattered the amazingly unique Sweet Violet Purple Teal as a final touch.
